Dark Tales From Jones Street
Topics: Advocacy, Legislature, Southeast Coast
Although Halloween is still a little more than a month away, the federation is hosting an event on Thursday that might scare you as much as the ghosts and goblins in October. Our political watchdog, prognosticator and lobbying director Rob Lamme will explain why this year’s legislature has not one environmental champion.
Rob is back with news from the weird and wacky 2012 legislative session which will enlighten, frighten and amaze you with how bad this legislative session was for our coast.

Rob will explain the truth behind the sea-level rise bill and the show video footage from the debate on the floor of the N.C. General Assembly that made our state the laughingstock of the nation and propelled Steven Colbert’s ratings out of the roof. If that is not enough to make you cry he will describe how good science trumped bad science, why global warming is like a glass of ice water-at, least in the N.C. House of Representatives, and how elected officials “fracked” their votes on critically important issues.
In addition Rob will enlighten you on the finer points of law-making and provide news and information about the laws and bills that passed (or didn’t) and the continued fight to protect our coast.
So join the federation staff on Sept. 13 for a Dutch treat – yes, you pay your own way -- social and dinner at 5:30 p.m.at Hieronymus Seafood, 5035 Market St., in Wilmington. Rob will talk and answer questions starting at 6:30 p.m.
To spice up the event, the federation will be offering memberships at a discounted rate, raffling off federation t-shirts and the grand prize, a tidal creek boat cruise with me, our Cape Fear coastal advocate. The event is free and open to the public but space is limited to the first 50 participants so come early. Call me at 910-509-2838 with questions.
