Gov. Roy Cooper announced Thursday that he was appointing Rep. Susi Hamilton of Wilmington as secretary of the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. He also appointed Reid Wilson, executive director of the Conservation Trust for North Carolina (CTNC), as chief deputy secretary.
Todd Miller, executive director of the North Carolina Coastal Federation, released a statement early Friday congratulating the appointees:
“The North Carolina Coastal Federation congratulates Rep. Susi Hamilton, who represents New Hanover and Brunswick counties, for her appointment as secretary of the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
We also congratulate Reid Wilson, executive director of the Conservation Trust for North Carolina (CTNC), on his nomination for chief deputy secretary of the same department.
We’ve worked with Hamilton and Wilson on many issues over the years. Hamilton’s leadership will ensure that the needs of our coast are understood and acted upon. We’re also very thankful to CTNC for our partnership with AmeriCorps that has allowed us to engage communities on coastal issues through expanded outreach and educational programs.”
