Participants logging in from over 100 computers joined the North Carolina Coastal Federation to celebrate the 2020 Pelican Awards from their homes.
On Thursday, Aug. 6, winners from up and down the coast shared inspiring stories of coastal stewardship, as well as their work to protect and restore the coast. Although this year’s celebration was held virtually, a very different format from the in-person event the federation is used to hosting, the program was still a great success.
“Each year we recognize extraordinary achievements of people working together to protect and restore the coast.” said Todd Miller, executive director of the federation. “This year’s winners inspired us to work even more diligently for our coast. “
The federation’s Pelican Award program was initiated in 2003 to recognize people and organizations that have shown exemplary coastal stewardship. This year’s ceremony featured 14 award winners. See our Summer Our Coast for a complete write up on each of this year’s award winners.
