Wetland Planting at Carolina Beach State Park
May 7 @ 9:30 am – 12:00 pm
Join the Coastal Federation for a hands-on volunteer event to help restore vital wetland habitat at Carolina Beach State Park! Volunteers will assist with planting native wetland species as part of the final year of a multi-phase restoration project.
Wetlands act as natural buffers against storms, filter pollutants, provide essential wildlife habitat, and support coastal communities. This area, once overrun with invasive phragmites, is being revitalized with native plants that benefit birds, mammals, and aquatic life. Your efforts will support lasting ecological improvements and help create a new observation platform for future educational opportunities.
This event is family-friendly and open to volunteers of all ages. Still, please note that the work is physically demanding and will take place in muddy, wet, and potentially hot and humid conditions. No experience is necessary—basic training will be provided. All tools, supplies, snacks, and refreshments will be available on-site, along with restroom facilities and parking. This project is part of the Restoration Plan for the Natural Resources Damages Assessment for the Kerr-McGee EPA Superfund Site in Navassa.
We are grateful for the support of the U.S. Fish &
Wildlife Service, NOAA, and the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, along with our partners at the North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation and the dedicated staff at Carolina Beach State Park.
