North Carolina has one of the largest and most productive estuarine systems in the United States. Persistent and emerging threats to current and future salt marshes are numerous and must be addressed effectively to reclaim loses and prevent negative impacts in the future. The overarching goal of the NC SMAP is to protect, restore, and facilitate the migration of salt marshes in North Carolina to minimize loss of function, benefits, and acreage.
